6 Pillars of Profit:
# 6 – Persistence
This last pillar is more of a motivational writing than instructions on how to promote or sell anything.
However, it is all connected!
If you quit at the first sign of a problem, challenge, or difficulty, then you will never succeed at anything. If you quit promoting because you have no sales, then you have yet to understand the basic principles of selling. If you quit because its just too hard – then its time for you to curl up on the floor with your teddy bear and cover yourself up with a blanket!
The Pain of not persisting (quitting) is greater than the pain of performance of your trial and error in life!
Lets take look at what persistence means.
“Persistence” – stubborn, enduring, continuance, tenacity
Example: You also have the mix of patience and persistence to make you a winner.
Example: We have to have the patience and persistence to see this through to success.
Example: It is persistence and effort and not giving up.
Winston Churchill, former Prime Minister of England in the late 1930’s and 1940’s was, at times, a controversial figure. You either hated him or loved him! However, it was during World War II that his dominate spirit, down-home grit, and never-bending will to win that ultimately changed the course of the war to a western victory.
One of the things I remember about Winston Churchill is a speech that he gave on October 29, 1941. Most politicians tend to be very verbose and lengthy in their speeches, yet Winston Churchill gave one of the most inspiring and one of the shortest speeches, probably in the history of speeches. At the height of the war with Germany and against the German Reich, he strode to the podium and uttered these few words,
“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give up. Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”
He was considered to be one of the most important British politicians in the 20th century. As a result of his leadership, he was able to hold the country together in a time of fear and anxiety.
Another well-known speaker and motivator, Jim Rohn, said this,
“How long should you try? Until.”
Until what? Until you succeed. Until you have achieved what you dream about and have a vision for. Until the goals you have set, personally, financially, spiritually have been attained.
Perhaps you say, “But I just cant! I don’t have enough money! I don’t know enough! My circumstances are . . . (blah, blah, blah!)
YOU PERSIST UNTIL!! You keep going, you keep trying, you keep moving forward even if the forward motion is measured in millimeters! You keep going UNTIL . . . you have reached success, until you have made that first sale, until you have sponsored that first team member, until you have reached your first milestone in your journey to success!
Jim Rohn goes on to say this about success:
“Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.”
Did you read that right?? “Consistently applying the basic fundamentals . . .”
This means never, ever, ever give up! Never quit! Never stop improving yourself, building upon what you have learned in the past, using it to step higher for the future, your future, and your future success!
“Character is a quality that embodies many important traits, such as integrity, courage, perseverance, confidence and wisdom. Unlike your fingerprints that you are born with and can’t change, character is something that you create within yourself and must take responsibility for changing.” (Jim Rohn)
Perseverance means the same as Persistence! If you have persistence, you continue to do something even though it is difficult or other people are against it. Skill comes only with practice, patience and persistence.
For the Olympic athlete it is getting out of bed and running or working out when its pouring down rain, or when it’s burning hot, when the muscles are hurting and cramped, when the sweat and exertion is sucking the energy right out of your bones!
George McBride, my online mentor and sponsor has this to say,
“The only way to fail is if you give up. If you make $0.76 on your first month of activity, you will succeed – IF you do not quit.
Look at the numbers and tell me, “If I make $0.76 in month one, and successfully duplicate my efforts, what will I make in month 9? In month 15?”
SO many people quit just as they’re ready to break through. Imagine mining deep into a mountainside, then walking away mere inches away from striking gold. Don’t be that person.
Worse is the person who does this over and over again. If they had just kept digging instead of moving on to the “next great thing” every few months, they’d already have their gold–and they would have reached it so much sooner!
And, yes, sometimes it will seem that your efforts are not accomplishing anything, but always remember that even the mightiest oak tree will eventually be felled by the steady chops of even the smallest axe. Persistence always pays off.
“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” -Conrad Hilton
“Once moving it is easy to correct the direction of the ship and get on course. It is getting the ship moving that is the hardest part.” -Me.
It’s when things get rough and you don’t quit that success comes.” -Unknown
