6 Pillars of Profit:

# 1 – Product

“How to find the products you like and can market effectively?”

Great question!!

George McBride, my online mentor and an awesome online marketer, has an email he sends out that will get you thinking!

He writes,

“There is an old saying, “Give a man a fish and feed him a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a life time”.

This saying is NOT TRUE!!

Teach a man to fish and he will never eat, not even once, if he has no access to the pond where the big fish swim.”

Or for that matter, where ANY fish swim!

If you are going fishing you need Opportunity and Access!

OPPORTUNITY because you need to be in a position to go, have the time to go as well as proper equipment; good bait, perhaps a boat, and a means to get to the lake, stream, ocean or wherever you want to fish.

ACCESS because if you do not have any lake, stream, canal, ocean or mud puddle, you will NOT get any fish at all!

Going fishing does not mean that you are going to catch something OR get access to the water.

OPPORTUNITY AND ACCESS means finding an affiliate company who’s products and services align with your principles and interests.  There are many company’s around the world who offer affiliate programs and means for you to promote those products and earn a commission.

The real question or challenge is:  What do you want to promote and sell?

Here is what Ronilo Saguit, another seasoned online marketer, said in an online Forum:

Most people in internet marketing will advise you to find what is in demand in the market.  It is partially true but you cannot sustain it if it is not your passion.

The truth is every product has its own market. Therefore I would suggest that you choose the product that is in line with your passion, then find like-minded people and sell the products there.

Let me share what I am doing to sell my chosen products that are converting well, based on my passion. Yours will be definitely different but the principle remains the same.

My passion is learning different ways to earn online. Here is the three steps I used to sell something based on my passion.

  1. Searching for products related to my passion.

I search for anything related to earning online. I typed some variety of keywords related to earning online. I found several ebooks and services like making blogs and websites. I buy the product and read or test it to see if it has value. Some are not good, but some are and those are the ones I keep and promote.

  1. Preparation for marketing.

I have a blog for earning online, and I make one entry in my blog about the product or services I choose. The format for blog entry that will be used for marketing is somewhat different from ordinary blogs. I put 1 big picture of the product at the top with the link to the product via my affiliate gateway. At the bottom is what I can say about the product. Since I have pretested it and I have my passion, I can usually describe the product well.

  1. Finding like-minded people.

Since this my passion, I have already joined several forums on this topic. I have also joined several groups on FaceBook and other social media groups talking about earning online.

  1. Making the Sales.

I usually sell products and services, not from a vendor’s or marketer’s point of view but from an enthusiast’s or hobbyist’s point of view. I don’t have to pretend because that is really my passion.

All of us can sustain this kind of marketing because we enjoy doing it. We may stop for awhile if there are pressing priorities but its easy to pick it up again until we become successful.

Here is what Andrew Anderson from the great state of Arizona had to say;

“Find something in high demand.

Compare cost and see if the Commission Value makes it a lucrative prospect.

If the product is in demand and priced right with a good Commission Value, great!

If the product is a consumable – even better. This creates reoccurring income.

You will get a lot of narrow-minded answers telling you to look to products that would sell to other affiliates to help their businesses. This narrow thought limits you to cheap, low-value items not appealing to over 3+ billion Internet Users.

Soaps, Vitamins, Candles, Food, and Cosmetics, all make great offers.

Jewelry is in high demand, as are affordable name-brand electronics, collectible and antiques. So don’t limit your potential and be one of the successful people looking for marketable general goods and a growing range of merchandise.”

This advice is excellent and good foundational principles for finding products to promote.

Finding great products not an easy thing to do – because at first, everything looks good to promote.  And you just want to promote something, sell it and make a commission.  Many of our decisions on products is based upon the immediate need for money, and recommended by a friend to sell.

However, there is a way to narrow down your choices and help you.

First of all, eliminate those items that you are NOT interested in selling.  For example, I am NOT interested in selling women’s products; shoes, clothing, makeup, personal items, hair care, and perfumes.  SO, this helps to reduce the number of items I can choose from.

Secondarily, search for products you currently use or are interested in.  This could be personal care; toothpaste, shampoos, deodorants, hair spray and gel, and shaving creams, etc.

What type of clothing do you like?  Comical Tee-shirts?  Baggy slacks and shirts, or upscale fashion that makes you look slim and trim?

How about accessories?  Do you like watches, necklaces and bracelets or other wearable bling?

What do you like to do in your spare time?  Do you have a hobby?  Are you interested in self-help books, tapes, or CD’s?  Are you into collecting, like stamps, artistic figurines, coasters, unique lighters, or unusual musical instruments?

Are you interested in Organic Products, natural herbs, home remedies for sicknesses, herbal products and handmade items.  All you need to do is a SEARCH and hundreds will come up for you.

Do you like crafts, sewing, DIY projects (Do It Yourself!), basket weaving and quilting?  Playing board games and putting together puzzles?  Lots to choose from and all you have to do is type these words in any “SEARCH” bar.

Are you a car enthusiast?  Do you fly an airplane?  Ride a bicycle or motorcycle?  Each of these have hundreds of products as accessories that you can promote and make a commission.

Do you have children?  How about products marketed to children?  There are literally thousands of products falling into this “niche.”  Toys, clothing, games, accessories, educational and informational items, books, movies, and music.

What is your occupational background?  Are there products affiliated with your business or occupation?  This could be electronic gadgets, specialized tools, writing instruments, gauges and measuring devices.  How about cooking utensils, pots and pans, dishes, and silverware?

Jewelry is a huge market with plenty of supply and demand.  I would recommend you choose one type of jewelry and then promote it heavily.  If you like rings, necklaces, earrings and ornamental jewelry, then there are dozens of company’s to choose from with hundreds of products.

The bottom line is:  Thousands of products are out there appealing to anyone and everyone!  What it takes is you setting aside TIME to do some browsing and market research.  I cannot make these choices for you – YOU HAVE TO DO IT!!

I can only give ideas, based upon my experience, of products I’m familiar with, products I have purchased, products I have used and can vouch for.  I also can give you some marketing tools, or banners, you can post on a variety of websites and locations.
