6 Pillars of Profit:

# 4 – Promotion

As with any product in the world, on any shelf, in any store, or as a digital product in any file or folder on any computer, someone was involved with advertising or “Promotion!”

ANY store who has NO customers, and NO sales, has NO money to take to the bank, unless the company, its employees, its affiliates and partners all engaged in the sales process by promotion and advertising.

Throughout the world, NOTHING gets done unless someone buys something, or someone sells something!

From the small noodle stand on a narrow road/Soi in downtown Chiangmai, Thailand, to a penthouse office in Manhattan or on Wall Street, the world turns on the fact that billions of people around the world spend money for a product or service, OR are receiving money for something they are selling, promoting, or engaged with.

You may create or invent the world’s best “Gadget” that will cause your “Gizmo” to greatly improve to the point of never breaking or stop working.

HOWEVER, if the buying public, the world, your community and neighborhood NEVER hears about it – you just have an object sitting on your shelf holding down sticky notes of things you need to buy at the grocery store!!

You MUST PROMOTE, PROMOTE, and then PROMOTE some more!

Here is what my sponsor, George, told me about promotion:

When we are marketing, we think we know the best way to do it. We see or use a new product. The product is great and the service is outstanding. We think we can sell it so easily. But we are uninformed about basic marketing principles.

We think Quality sells. We think Service sells.

If this were true MacDonald’s would not sell another hamburger.

Market research shows that what sells is “touches”. Sell a great product but “touch” a person once or twice, touch 100 persons once or twice, touch 10,000 people once or twice and you will make VERY few sales.

What sells is touches.

MacDonald’s, Budweiser, Coors, Coke and several others all have huge marketing budgets. They want to “touch” you 100s of times. Most of their ads say nothing substantial about the product. What is there to say about a Coke? No they want you to become friends with their product. Regardless how it tastes they want you to feel good about their product. Their ads try to be humorous or inspiring or just fun. Then, when you’re thirsty, you think Coke.

It is no different for you, except perhaps in scale. It is better to “touch” a smaller number of people often than to touch 1000s once or twice. Touching 1000s will be a waste of money. That is why “guaranteed visitors” to your website yields very little. That is why guaranteed sign ups rarely upgrade, rarely even visit the site a second time. They’ve only been touched once.

That is why so many people say, “The money is in the list”.

What “list?” Your email marketing list! (more later)

Thank you, George!

So, promotion is vitally important to the success of any affiliate.  AND, as George has said, it may take 7-12 “touches” or promotional events in order for your customer to finally open their wallets and take out cash!

Promotion can come in a variety of ways and means.  There are literally dozens of ways to promote SFI and TC products.  The best thing is to find one that WORKS FOR YOU and then just keep doing it!

How many times have you seen a commercial for McDonalds?  For Coke? Pepsi?  Your favorite Beer? Car insurance, shampoo, automobiles, etc??  Hundreds if not thousands of times!  In fact, some commercials have been viewed so many times that you can quote the verbal content and sing the theme song!

I am on the mailing lists of many major online marketers.  Whenever they are promoting a product, I generally receive about 10-15 emails – all slightly different in content – about the product, benefits of the product,  perhaps a video demo of the product, the long-term value of the product, and then some testimonials about customers who have bought the product and have had success using the product.

You need to be the same with your affiliate stores.  Just keep at it! You will not be an expert over night, and you will probably not experience a lot of sales real quick.  But don’t be discouraged!!  Find new and original ways to showcase the products that you like and want people to buy.
